Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) departed for Riau Province on Wednesday morning to observe the Pekanbaru-Bangkinang toll road project and mass COVID-19 vaccination.

The head of state and his limited entourage departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase in East Jakarta at around 7 a.m. local time aboard Presidential Airplane Indonesia-1.

The president's entourage comprised Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, Indonesian Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Chief of Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono, President's Military Secretary Rear Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, Commander of the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) Major General Agus Subiyanto, and Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media Affairs of the Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin.

Jokowi is scheduled to observe the progress in construction of the 40-kilometer section, which is part of the Trans-Sumatra toll road, shortly after arriving at the Roesmin Nurjadin Airbase in the Riau provincial capital of Pekanbaru

On arrival in Pekanbaru, the president will also brief the Riau governor and mayors and district heads from across the province at the Riau Provincial Building over the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The president and his entourage will later observe the mass COVID-19 vaccination at the Youth Sports Stadium located not far away from the Riau Provincial Building. The mass vaccination involved public service officers, religious and social figures, and senior citizens.

The president will continue his journey to Riau Islands Province after concluding his working visit to Riau.
