No need to worry about the new virus strains, but we need to stay alert.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - To protect ourselves from new variants of COVID-19, we need to consistently adhere to health protocols, strengthen our immune systems, and keep faith, a doctor-in-charge at the clinic of ANTARA National News Agency, Dr Maria Ulfa stated.

“No need to worry about the new virus strains, but we need to stay alert,” Ulfa noted during an online event on the topic “Ranger Talk: Staying Alert to the Rising Number of Positive COVID-19 Cases during Post-Eid Al-Fitr” here on Saturday.

Ulfa outlined that the main efforts to stem COVID-19 transmission are staying disciplined in observing health protocols through 5M; maintaining high immunity levels by eating nutritionally balanced foods encompassing adequate quantities of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vegetables, and fruits; ensuring eight hours of sleep every day; doing regular exercises; and drinking adequate mineral water.

“Also, do not forget to pray for health and safety of our ourselves, family, relations, and friends,” she noted.

The 5M actions of health protocols comprises wearing a mask, maintaining a safe physical distance, washing hands, avoiding crowds, and restricting the mobility.

Moreover, she appealed to the public to support the vaccination program by participating in the existing one.

Vaccination is aimed at creating the body’s immunity, so it is capable of fighting the infection caused by COVID-19. If immunity has developed, a person will not suffer from severe sickness. As a result, the mortality rate will continually decrease.

Nowadays, five variants of concern (VoC) causing COVID-19 have been identified in several countries, such as the English variant, South African variant, Indian variant, Brazilian variant, and Californian variant.

A variant is indicated as VoC if it has been clinically proven that at least one up to three more effects concerned to easily spread, is more deadly, and is making the vaccine less effective.

The virus variants causing COVID-19 has been found in Indonesia, either imported cases or local transmissions of English, South African, and Indian variants.
