As of today, we have found a total of 933 returning residents to be reactive to the virus at the checkpoints and in the community.Jakarta (ANTARA) - As many as 933 Jakartans have been found reactive to COVID-19 upon their return to the city after attending Eid al-Fitr celebrations in their hometowns.
"As of today, we have found a total of 933 returning residents to be reactive to the virus at the checkpoints and in the community," chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Inspector General Fadil Imran, said here on Thursday.
They were found reactive to COVID-19 based on the results of antigen swab tests conducted during a 16-day raid codenamed Operasi Ketupat Jaya 2021, he informed.
Returning residents found reactive to COVID-19 were taken to the Wisma Atlet COVID-19 Emergency Hospital in Kemayoran, Jakarta for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, he said.
If they test positive, they would be asked to conduct self-isolation at Wisma Atlet and other health facilities, he said. However, if they test negative for the virus, they will be allowed to return home, he added.
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police had estimated that about 1.5 million people residing in Jakarta and surrounding areas returned to their hometowns to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, and therefore, there was potential for cases to increase after the festivities.
To avoid a spike in the coronavirus caseload, the National Police and Military took anticipatory measures in cooperation with local governments.
"Alhmamdulillah (Thank God), the addition of COVID-19 cases in Jakarta and surrounding areas remains under control. Although the number once increased, it is now showing signs of improvement," Imran said. (INE)
