Dunhuang, Gansu, China (ANTARA) - The Chinese government will continue to open a new room to enhance bilateral relations with Indonesia, a spokesman stated.

"In the framework of cooperation with Indonesia, China will continue to open a new room comprehensively," spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wang Wenbin noted in a press statement made available to Antara in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, on Tuesday.

Both nations concurred on several points of cooperation reached at a meeting between a member of the Chinese State Council, concurrently Minister of Affairs, Wang Yi and Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjitan in Guiyang, Guizhou Province, on Saturday (June 5).

At the meeting, both sides inked a memorandum of understanding on the development of a comprehensive regional economic corridor and the creation of a joint committee at the corridor.

"This is a milestone to implement the consensus between the two state heads and a major event in bilateral relations with Indonesia," he remarked.

Both sides also agreed on enhanced cooperation in the maritime, political, economic, and cultural fields.

"The meeting offers new spirit to the bilateral relations in the post-pandemic era," he stated.

China and Indonesia also mutually supported national development efforts and research and development in the fields of the vaccine industry, production, and distribution. China will assist Indonesia in realizing a regional hub for vaccine production.

They also agreed to harmonize the vision and mission of the Road Belt Initiative (BRI) and the Global Maritime Axis by accelerating the development of industrial estate and common market platforms since the two countries have a combined population of 1.7 billion.

China will support Indonesia to build a national fish storage center, accelerate negotiations on the Code of Conduct) in the South China Sea, and expand online tourism cooperation.
