Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government will extend assistance to local administrations to establish COVID-19 self-isolation and quarantine facilities in their regions after a decision was taken on gradual funding decentralization.

"It considers that the COVID-19 handling efforts should be adjusted in line with the challenges in each regions," a spokesman of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force Wiku Adisasmito noted in a statement here on Thursday.

The government, in its coordination with related institutions and local government, agreed to gradually decentralize funding for self-isolation.

However, the central government is prepared to assist local administrations encountering difficulties, particularly in offering self-isolation facilities, and jointly sought a solution.

The central government will also respond quickly to assist regions curbing COVID-19 infections that tend to increase after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Adisasmito has urged local governments to take precautionary measures against a further spike in coronavirus infections before the situation worsened and got out of control.

"All district heads and mayors are expected to improve COVID-19 handling in their respective regions," he stated. Related news: Hospitalization of 405 other COVID-19 patients at Wisma Atlet
