Jakarta (ANTARA) - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin underscored the importance of providing as many isolation rooms as possible at the sub-district and village level to allay the burden on isolation facilities.

At an online press conference here on Monday, Sadikin made the statement in line with President Joko Widodo’s directives.

The availability of isolation rooms should be ensured once the government has enforced micro-scale public activities restriction (Micro PPKM), particularly for regions categorized as red zones wherein the mobility will be reduced by 75-100 percent, he explained.

During the restriction, self-isolation can be conducted if possible, but if not, centralized isolation can alternatively be conducted.

“The president has directed that centralized isolation be conducted in the regions, either in sub-districts or villages. Thus, it will ease the load on large centralized isolation, such as in Wisma Atlet,” he pointed out.

Speaking in connection with emerging family clusters, the minister spoke of the president’s instruction to conduct testing around people that had tested positive since family clusters were widely found.

If in one area there are five houses infected, a specific restriction can be enforced at the neighborhood level with the help of Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri), Sadikin informed.

“This is in order that mobility restriction be enforced at the smallest level,” he remarked.

As earlier reported, the government had decided to reduce operating hours of activity centers, such as shopping centers, malls, markets, and trade centers, to at most 8 p.m. local time on June 22-July 5, 2021.

The policy adjustment was issued to tighten and strengthen the Micro PPKM in a bid to reduce the COVID-19 transmission rate. Related news: Health Ministry ensures adequate COVID-19 isolation rooms at hospitals
