Chon confirmed that by Friday, AstraZeneca had rolled out another one million doses of vaccine to Indonesia. The vaccines arrived at the Soekarno Hatta International Airport on Friday morning. The delivery marked the 26th consignment of vaccine supplies received by Indonesia. Indonesia had until now received over 141 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The delivery added to the millions of doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine that Indonesia had received through COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) and donations from various countries.
"We had sent approximately 14 million doses of the vaccine and will roll out another million doses to fulfill our deal with Indonesia through COVAX or from non-profit donation," he stated.
The deal between Indonesia and AstraZeneca aims to support the National Immunization Program managed by the Ministry of Health in order to expedite the progress in vaccination in Indonesia. The government is required to accelerate vaccination to build herd immunity amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in Indonesia.
The president director noted that AstraZeneca had continued to meet vaccine requirements worldwide through COVAX, non-profit donations, and personal deals between several countries.
AstraZeneca was the first global pharmaceutical company to have joined COVAX in June 2020 and supplied over 90 percent of the vaccines that COVAX distributed globally.
