The NTT provincial government, along with the district and city governments, are intensively vaccinating residents in an effort to prevent a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases, Chief of the Health Service Section at the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Provincial Health Office Emma Simanjuntak stated here on Saturday.
Simanjuntak revealed that NTT residents, who had received the first dose of vaccination, reached 16 percent of NTT’s 3.6 million population targeted for COVID-19 vaccination.
"There is an increase in the vaccination rate in NTT, from only 12 percent last week to 16 percent. This increase occurred after the government accelerated vaccination services for NTT residents," Simanjuntak pointed out.
The health office chief also attributed the increase in the rate of COVID-19 vaccination in NTT to the support of various parties, such as the TNI/Polri, the prosecutor's office, as well as other government institutions, which had conducted mass vaccinations for residents.
The NTT government lauded the efforts of various parties to conduct mass COVID-19 vaccinations that pushed up the vaccination rate, from 12 percent to 16 percent, Simanjuntak stated.
"During the mass vaccination at the NTT High Prosecutor's Office alone, 17,500 residents had received vaccinations. The people were highly enthusiastic," she remarked.
Simanjuntak noted that the NTT government had continued to encourage district and city governments to expedite COVID-19 vaccinations for NTT residents, so the province could attain herd immunity in order to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.
