I suggested pregnant women to get the vaccination during 13 to 33 weeks of pregnancy
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Pregnant women in the near future can get vaccinated for COVID-19, albeit with applicable terms and conditions, the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) said.

Deputy of the IDI Mitigation Team and Chairman of the Indonesian Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (POGI) Dr Ari Kusuma Januarto, SpOG(K) highlighted that several clinical instructions for administering COVID-19 vaccinations were in place for the general public, pregnant women, and children.

"In general, people with hypertension were not suggested to receive the vaccine. However, pregnant women that were diagnosed with a condition called preeclampsia that can cause high blood pressure were prohibited from getting the vaccine," Dr Januarto stated in his address during the discussion "Vaccination for Pregnant Women."

The doctor later explained that pregnant women, with blood pressure above 140/90, were barred from getting the COVID-19 vaccination and were required to have a recommendation letter from their obstetrician and gynecologist.

Pregnant women, with swollen feet, headaches, heartburn, and other symptoms, will be monitored first to be vaccinated. Januarto suggested women, who were 13-33 weeks pregnant, to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

"First, we will conduct a screening test to see if it is safe enough for the expectant mother to get vaccinated. I suggested pregnant women to get the vaccination during 13 to 33 weeks of pregnancy," he stated.

Moreover, pregnant women with diabetes and heart conditions must be frequently monitored before vaccination. Meanwhile, expectant mothers undergoing auto-immune treatment should delay the vaccination until they get permission from their doctor.

Pregnant women, with history of allergies or severe allergies, should also receive special attention. If they experienced allergies from the first dose of vaccination, doctors should not recommend the second jab for them.

"After vaccination, pregnant women were required to monitor themselves, including the baby's development and condition during pregnancy until labor," Januarto noted.
