This move aims to strengthen the role of command posts on the field to support the expedited handling of COVID-19 in Indonesia
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has reinforced Level 4 Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) through command posts in urban villages in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Greater Jakarta), and South Tangerang (Jabodetabek - Tangsel).

"This move aims to strengthen the role of command posts on the field to support the expedited handling of COVID-19 in Indonesia," Abdul Muhari, spokesman of the BNPB, noted in a written statement here on Tuesday.

The BNPB, represented by the Directorate of Emergency Resource Support (DSDD), paid a visit to the Greater Jakarta - South Tangerang areas on Monday, July 19, to Thursday, July 22.

Reinforcement is being conducted by coordinating and offering assistance to the PPKM posts. Coordination is conducted over the need for the post to handle COVID-19 emergency scenarios.

"Apart from that, the BNPB team also monitors the enforcement of PPKM at the uran village level. From the results of field monitoring, the team noted that PPKM posts at the village level played an active role in accordance with their respective regional regulations," Muhari emphasized.

The pentahelix concept plays an active role during reinforcement being conducted at the PPKM posts, including through the empowerment of volunteers. Various people are volunteering at these posts.

For instance, the volunteers in Jagakarsa Village, South Jakarta, come from non-governmental organizations while others are religious leaders and local doctors. This was also observed in Ciracas and Lubang Buaya Urban Villages, East Jakarta.

In South Tangerang City, the Task Force and volunteers actively took action against violators of the Emergency PPKM. The action was taken in accordance with Circular Letter of the South Tangerang Mayor Number 443/2584/Huk on Level 4 PPKM extension.

Health protocols were intensively promoted to members of the public. In Bogor District, awareness was raised through several ways, comprising the face-to-face method and via social media platforms.

Such actions were taken to make the public aware of the importance of adhering to health protocols.

Meanwhile, the team also spotted several aspects that often posed obstacles on the field. As in some areas of Jakarta and Depok City, the supply of oxygen is insufficient to meet the needs of the residents, thereby making it difficult to obtain oxygen.

In addition, the PPKM command posts in Ciracas and Lubang Buaya Urban Villages reported that officers and healthcare workers were also exposed to COVID-19, thereby leading to lack of human resources and hindering the COVID-19 handling process in the region.

"According to data released by BNPB as of Monday, August 2, the daily increase in the number of cases in Jakarta and Banten reached a thousand. Meanwhile, in West Java, the daily cases increased by 2,341," Muhari stated.

Top five regions with the highest daily deaths in Indonesia, include the provinces of West Java and Jakarta.

The assistance and monitoring of the PPKM command posts are expected to reduce this figure. Coordination with people at the village level is also projected to meet the needs of COVID-19 handling in the Jabodetabek area.
