Penajam, Kaltim (ANTARA) - As many as 69 COVID-19 patients in Penajam North Paser District (PPU), East Kalimantan Province, made a recovery, thereby resulting in the region's recovery rate rising by 1.39 percent.

"Yesterday, the recovery rate was 69.18 percent, and today, it is 70.57 percent, so there is a 1.39-percent increase," spokesperson of the PPU COVID-19 Task Force Dr Jansje Grace Makisurat stated here, on Tuesday.

The 70.57 percent rate comprised 2,211 people that made a recovery out of the 3,133 people infected with COVID-19.

Three infected patients succumbed to the disease, thereby bringing the total death count from COVID-19 cases to 124 (3.95 percent) out of the 3,133 people.

"Besides, today 37 new positive cases are recorded, so the total count of COVID-19 positive cases in PPU has reached 3,133," Makisurat noted.

From the 3,133 infected people, 316 positive cases were recorded from Penajam District, 226 patients made a recovery, while 19 patients died of the disease.

In Waru Sub-district, 95 people are still infected, 254 recovered, and 14 people succumbed to the disease. In Babulu Sub-district, 181 COVID-19 positive cases were recorded, 226 made a recovery, and 19 people died.

Sepaku Sub-district recorded 206 positive cases, 391 recoveries, and 36 deaths.

Makisurat pointed out that the number of COVID-19 suspects increased by 39, thereby bringing the total to up to 4,762 for the period between March 22, 2020, and August 3, 2021.

"From the total 4,762 suspects, five are undergoing self-isolation, nine are being treated in hospitals, 25 with comorbidity died, while the rest are confirmed positive (with COVID-19), and many of them had recovered," she said.
