Special requirements are in place for residents opting to self-isolate at home, including a separate room and toilet, an open space, and several other requirementsSleman (ANTARA) - District Head of Sleman Kustini Sri Purnomo has encouraged residents testing positive for COVID-19 to self-isolate in the isolation shelters provided to reduce family cluster transmission and other fatal incidents.
"Special requirements are in place for residents opting to self-isolate at home, including a separate room and toilet, an open space, and several other requirements," Purnomo stated in Sleman, the Yogyakarta Special Region, Wednesday.
She explained that if the house used by COVID-19 patients to self-isolate failed to meet the requirements, it was highly recommended to use shelters widely available in Sleman to prevent COVID-19 transmission within family clusters.

"Residents can use isolation shelters managed by the Sleman district government, the shelter provided in each urban village (kelurahan), or shelters managed by institutions or non-government organizations," she pointed out.
Purnomo believes that by self-isolating in shelters, patients can be optimally supervised owing to medical officers on standby to continually monitor and the village's COVID-19 Task Force that will assist the patients.
"However, if you still choose to self-isolate at home, we urge you always to be disciplined and continue to refer to the COVID-19 health protocols," she emphasized.

According to Purnomo, if people undergoing self-isolation experienced worsening symptoms and could not be treated at home, then they should immediately report to the nearest health facility or health center.
"This is to avoid fatal incidents, such as COVID-19 patients dying while undergoing self-isolation at home," she cautioned, adding that "the number of patients who died during self-isolation at home is quite high in Sleman."
Coordinator of the COVID-19 Decontamination Post of the Sleman Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Vincentius Lilik Officialyanto, drew attention to the relatively high number of people, who died while undergoing self-isolation at home in recent times.
"In July, more than 200 residents died while self-isolating. Most of those who died were just found to be positive for COVID-19 from the test result issued after they had passed away," he noted.
