Padang Aro, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - South Solok District Head Khairunas confirmed that 10 percent of the 2022 regional budget will be allocated to boost local farming and the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector recovering from the pandemic fallout.

South Solok is least affected economically by the COVID-19 pandemic, as most residents work in the agriculture and MSME sectors, thereby reducing the economic fallout, according to the district head.

"Local farming and agriculture as well as local MSMEs are not severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic since most residents of South Solok worked in the agriculture and MSME sectors. To further strengthen the two sectors, we are aiming to allocate 10 percent of the local budget for the sectors," Khairunas remarked in the South Solok capital, here on Wednesday.

The decision to bring about improvements in the two sectors aligns with the district leadership’s mission to strengthen the agriculture and farming sector, Khairunas stated.

Khairunas appealed to the district leadership and institutions to unify efforts and foster cooperation under the spirit of national independence to improve the livelihood of the district's residents by boosting healthcare services, education, trade, entrepreneurship, and the farming sector.

The district head is optimistic that boosting the local farming sector would support the ongoing economic recovery and kickstart recovery of other sectors impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and improve the residents’ livelihood and economic situation in the region.

Meanwhile, South Solok Secretary for Regional Financial Control Murfiandika Arif stated that the total value of the 2022 regional budget, as reported by the district executives on their budget plan report submitted to the regional assembly, reached Rp726.1 billion (some US$50 million).

"The district budget of Rp726.1 billion is already agreed by the regional assembly, pending ratification at the plenary assembly," Arif stated.
