One day extended in PPKM enforcement has driven West Java Province to lose revenue as much as Rp20 billion per day
Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - West Java Governor M. Ridwan Kamil, known as Kang Emil, confirmed that the enforcement of public activity restrictions (PPKM) had driven the province to incur daily regional revenue losses to the tune of Rp20 billion.

“One day extended in PPKM enforcement has driven West Java Province to lose revenue as much as Rp20 billion per day. Hence, we were also in trouble,” Kamil noted in his speech at the 2021 Kick Off West Java Economic Society and Road to ISEI Congress XXI held online here on Monday.

Kamil is optimistic of receiving recommendations on the issues due to such a situation.

“I expect recommendations to be offered on account of this event, particularly to boost the people’s purchasing power and government standing. We have lost Rp5 trillion. Hence, many activities were suspended,” he pointed out.

On the other hand, from the economic aspect, West Java has recorded some achievement in the midst of pandemic. Its economic growth touched 6.13 percent in the second quarter of 2021, Kamil noted.

“The growth has leaped, from minus four percent as compared to that recorded during the corresponding period,” he remarked.

Another piece of good news was the flow of investment into West Java always being ranked first nationally, he added.

“If I am not mistaken, investment in West Java was valued at around Rp70 trillion. Moreover, we also contributed to the highest exports, at 15.6 percent, by the end of this semester,” he highlighted.

The two economic measures have become the achievements for West Java amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, from the economic perspective, the condition has started to recover, thereby translating to the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic in West Java was considered to be well-handled.

“Alhamdulillah (Thank God), the engine of the economy has moved faster after being stopped during PPKM,” he stated.

PPKM is deemed to have significantly impacted the economic sector, especially the social activities that had to be halted to handle the COVID-19 pandemic effectively.

“In fact, several economic activities necessitated direct social interaction,” he remarked.
