Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 52.3 percent of the active cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia as of Monday were from regions outside Java and Bali Islands, Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto stated.

“If we look at the number of active cases, the regions outside Java and Bali contributed 52.3 percent, declining (from the previous figure),” Hartarto, concurrently chairman of the National Committee for COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery (KPC-PEN), stated.

Airlangga noted that Sumatra had contributed 14.31 percent of the national COVID-19 cases, with a recovery rate of 84.4 percent and mortality rate of 3.27 percent. Meanwhile, its contribution to the national active case count stood at 24.23 percent.

“The number of cases from August 9 to August 23 declined by 25.72 percent,” he remarked during an online press conference on evaluating and enforcing public activity restrictions in Jakarta on Monday.

Nusa Tenggara contributed two percent of the national COVID-19 case count, with a recovery rate of 89.51 percent and a fatality rate of 2.2 percent. The number of active cases constituted 2.33 percent of the national tally and declined 47.57 percent during the August 9-23 period.

Kalimantan contributed 7.92 percent to the national COVID-19 case count, with a recovery rate of 89.51 percent and a fatality rate of 3.04 percent. Kalimantan’s active cases to the national tally reached 11.31 percent, with the number of active cases declining 31.3 percent.

Sulawesi contributed 5.35 percent to the national COVID-19 case count, with a recovery rate of 85 percent and a fatality rate of 2.41 percent. The number of active cases in Sulawesi between August 2 and August 23 decreased 31.3 percent.

Meanwhile, Maluku’s and Papua’s contributions to the national numbers fell by 1.98 percent, with a recovery rate of 79.16 percent and fatality rate of 1.55 percent. The number of active cases contributed 5.24 percent to the national count and declined 18.86 percent.
