Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The Tangerang city government, through its Health Office, has received 163,800 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine from the Health Ministry for the general public, an official said.



In a statement issued on Tuesday, acting head of Tangerang City Health Office, Dini Anggraeni, said that people above 18 years of age and who have not been vaccinated with the first dose can take the Pfizer vaccine.



"This Pfizer vaccine is for people who have never been vaccinated. If residents have been vaccinated with the Sinovac vaccine for the first dose, they cannot receive the Pfizer vaccine for the second dose. Because it must be the same type (of vaccine injected) in the first and second dose," she stressed.

Tangerang Mayor Arief R Wismansyah said the administration of the Pfizer vaccine began on Tuesday (August 24, 2021), and it is hoped that residents would register to schedule vaccinations.



"Starting today, vaccinations will be carried out using Pfizer vaccines, whose efficacy reaches 95 percent after the second dose," he informed.



The city government would continue to work to improve the COVID-19 situation in Tangerang city by accelerating the formation of herd immunity by expediting vaccinations, Wirmansyah added.

The mayor also appealed to the public to take part in COVID-19 vaccinations to accelerate the formation of community immunity in Tangerang city and remain disciplined in implementing preventive health protocols.



"Regardless of the type, all vaccines have been declared safe and effective," he remarked.



The Indonesian government launched nationwide vaccinations on January 13, 2021 in a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19. President Widodo was the first to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in the country.
