Vaccination and MSMEs become a vital foundation to persevere the economic recovery trend through synergy and collaboration
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Representative Office of Bank Indonesia (BI) of Jakarta confirmed that the city had considerable capital to continue the trend of economic recovery following the increase in COVID-19 vaccination and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) using digital payment systems.

"Vaccination and MSMEs become a vital foundation to persevere the economic recovery trend through synergy and collaboration," BI Jakarta’s provincial representative Onny Widjanarko stated at the opening of JaKreatiFest 2021 here on Monday.

Widjanarko noted that until now, 1.3 million MSME players in Jakarta had used the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) as their digital payment system.

Meanwhile, quoting the Jakarta government’s data, Widjanarko remarked that as of August 29, 2021, the first vaccination dose had been administered to 9.6 million, or 107.7 percent of the targeted 8.9 million, while the second vaccination dose was given to 5.5 million people, or 61.6 percent of the targeted figure.

Widjanarko called on all parties to synergize and collaborate to explore potential sources of new economic growth, including the Sharia MSME sector, creative industries, tourism including conference and exhibition industry (MICE), digital economy, and finance.

According to Widjanarko, the sectors can be an opportunity to accelerate the national economic recovery, especially in Jakarta.

In addition to vaccination and digital payment systems, Widjanarko affirmed that the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases, the easing of public activity restrictions (PPKM) to level 3, and lowering of inflation in Jakarta were believed to offer new hope.

Based on the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data on Jakarta, the city’s economic growth in the second quarter of 2021 rose up to 10.9 percent and entered the positive zone after having contracted by 1.91 percent during the first quarter of 2021, he remarked.

Widjanarko pointed out that as compared to the corresponding period in the second quarter of 2020, Jakarta's economy contracted by 8.33 percent during that period.
