Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Jiro Tominaga as the new ADB director for Indonesia. He will replace Winfried Wicklein, who is currently serving as ADB's deputy director general for Southeast Asia.

“I am ready to increase our partnership and cooperation with the government and other stakeholders to support the development agenda of Indonesia,” Tominaga said here on Wednesday.

Tominaga will lead ADB operations in Indonesia, manage relations with the government and development partners, and supervise the implementation of ADB’s partnership strategy for Indonesia during the 2020-2024 period.

The partnership strategy is aimed at helping Indonesia emerge stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic through supporting human development, economic competitiveness, disaster risk management, and environmental sustainability.

Tominaga, a Japanese national, joined ADB in 2015 as principal planning and policy specialist. He also held the post of ADB director for business strategy, policy, and process.

Before joining ADB, Tominaga worked for the Japan Fund for Foreign Economic Cooperation, which is now called Japan Bank for International Cooperation.

He has also worked for the Japanese Ministry of Finance and the Word Bank, focusing on the use of information and communication technology to provide public services and independent evaluation.
