Papua Public Works and Spatial Planning Office Head Girius One Yoman stated in Jayapura that the university students would be assigned for installing banners and pennants, painting and cleaning work, and doing other duties required to beautify the sporting venues.
Apart from preparing the competition venues, the students are also assigned work to decorate several public places in Jayapura City and Jayapura District, for instance, the Sentani Airport and Base-G Beach, Yoman noted.
Yoman asserted that Jayapura City, as the capital of Papua Province, and Jayapura District, as the main gate for welcoming the PON XX athletes and officials upon their arrival in Sentani Airport, should be archetypal, clean, and tidy during the games.

"We decided to involve university students in the preparation work to motivate them and other students to participate and enliven the 20th National Games," Yoman stated.
The participating university students will also receive an honorarium for their service at the conclusion of their work despite the office yet to specify the total stipend allocated for the students' pay.
The PON National Games are scheduled on October 2-15, 2021, while the XVI National Para Games are planned to be held on November 2-15, 2021. Apart from Jayapura City and Jayapura District, the PON National Games will also be hosted by the districts of Mimika and Merauke.
