Lumajang, East Java (ANTARA) - An inmate, convicted of terrorism-related charges, held at Class II-B Prison in Lumajang District, East Java, was freed after pledged allegiance to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), a prison official reported.

The Lumajang prison head Agus Wahono confirmed that the inmate, Ahmad Dani bin Ibrahim from East Kalimantan, was freed on Tuesday (Sept 20) after having earlier declared loyalty to Indonesia.

Ahmad Dani was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment after being convicted of terrorism-related charges and was detained at the Lumajang prison after being held earlier at the Mako Brimob Prison, Depok, Wahono remarked.

"The terror inmate was sentenced to six years in prison, and he spent half of his sentence at the Mako Brimob Prison. He was relocated to Lumajang prison three years ago," Wahono confirmed in Lumajang.

Dani declared his loyalty to Indonesia on July 21, 2021, in a ceremony witnessed by Lumajang District Deputy Head Indah Amperawati and other Lumajang officials.

"After he declared his loyalty to Indonesia with verbal and written statements, we propose a remission for him. The authority then approved the remission proposal, and he received remission for 23 months and 15 days from his sentence," the prison head stated.

Wahono pointed out that during confinement, Dani was cooperative with the other inmates and prison wardens. He also actively participated in prison activities and was willing to mingle with other Muslim inmates and perform congregational prayers at the prison mosque, the prison head noted.

"Terrorism-linked inmates, who are yet to renounce their radical thoughts, are often uncooperative with prison wardens and refuse to join congregational prayers. Ahmad Dani, despite being a terror inmate, actively participated in prison activities," Wahono stated.

After being freed from prison, Dani would be escorted by the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) and police officers to the airport and to his way home in Samarinda, East Kalimantan.

"The Lumajang Police and BNPT both dispatched two officers to escort Dani. We hope he would be able to rebuild his life and socialise with neighbours in his surroundings after he arrived home," Wahono remarked.
