Jakarta (ANTARA) - Golkar Party had yet to inform the House of Representatives (DPR RI) leadership regarding replacement of Azis Syamsuddin, who resigned after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named him a bribery suspect, House deputy speaker stated.

"We did not yet receive any letter from the Golkar Party informing of the new deputy speaker's name," House deputy speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday.

The procedure to replace Syamsuddin would be performed by the Golkar Party's parliamentary faction that appointed him for the deputy speakership, he noted.

After the Golkar Party informs the House leadership regarding the new deputy speaker's name, it will be taken up at the leadership meeting and the deliberative meeting before a final decision is made during the plenary meeting, the deputy speaker explained.

"We will await the party's decision, as the initial process to name the candidate is within the discretion of the Golkar Party's internal procedure," Ahmad stated.

The House leadership will convene today to decide on the deputy speaker to preside over the political, legal, and security deputy speaker portfolio earlier held by Syamsuddin.

The leadership meeting will also examine whether the Golkar Party has finalized its decision and submit the new deputy speaker's name, he remarked.

Earlier, the Golkar Party confirmed that party member Azis Syamsuddin had tendered his resignation as the House deputy speaker after being named a bribery suspect by the KPK.

The anti-corruption commission suspected Syamsuddin of giving a bribe of Rp3.1 billion (around US$217 thousand) to former KPK officer Stepanus Robin Pattuju in connection with an investigation into a corruption case in Central Lampung District.
