Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo's plan to recruit 56 former employees of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will strengthen the Directorate of Corruption Crimes at the Indonesian National Police, legal expert from Borobudur University Professor Faisal Santiago stated.

Earlier, the 56 former KPK employees were discharged on account of their minimum score in the nationality civics test (TWK).

"If the police want to recruit them as the police investigators, then that is a good step," Santiago remarked here on Wednesday.

Santiago believes the move positively signaled efforts to eradicate corruption in Indonesia.

"It will strengthen the police force and help the government to prevent corruption," he affirmed.

Earlier, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, during a press conference in Papua, echoed his aspirations to recruit former KPK employees in the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit to strengthen the Corruption Crime Directorate.

General Prabowo conveyed his intent to President Joko Widodo through a letter sent on September 24.

"We have sent a letter to the president to seek to recruit the 56 former KPK employees as the National Police's civil servants," he noted during a press conference in Papua on Tuesday.

According to Prabowo, the 56 former employees of the KPK have a good track record in dealing with corruption. Hence, he believed they would be able to strengthen the Directorate of Corruption Crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Department.

President Jokowi, through the minister of state secretary, has sent a reply letter to the National Police Chief, which was received on September 27, 2021.

"In principle, he agreed to our request to recruit the 56 former KPK employees to work in the National Police," Prabowo stated.

In the reply letter, the president instructed the National Police chief to coordinate with State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Tjahjo Kumolo and the National Civil Service Agency (BKN) for the recruiting process.
