Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Jakarta administration lauded the launch of a new train service by state-run railway company, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), with the train named Airlangga.

The new train will serve the route of Pasar Senen (Jakarta) - Pasar Turi (Surabaya).

Deputy Mayor of Central Jakarta Irwandi explained that the operation of Airlangga Train was one of activities to mark KAI's 76th anniversary celebrated on September 28, 2021.

"This is an acceleration and innovation conducted by PT KAI. With the Airlangga Train, the public can be served well," Irwandi stated at the launch of the Airlangga Train at the Pasar Senen Station here on Friday.

Irwandi assessed that PT KAI had continued to improve operational services, so that the public, as train riders, can be safer and more comfortable in using means of train transportation.

The deputy mayor noted that PT KAI had made several changes and conducted revitalization at Senen Station, which is currently much more aesthetically appealing, and its quality is almost at par with that of Gambir Station.

"We see that everything looks good, and we hope there would be no more filthy train stations with high crime rates. (Pasar Senen Station) is excellent, and KAI is conducting innovation and advancement of train services," Irwandi remarked.

The Airlangga Train is operated based on the task entrusted by the Ministry of Transportation on KAI as stipulated in the ministerial letter No. KA.005/1/25/K2/DJKA/2021 dated September 28, 2021, pertaining to the operation of Airlangga Train as a Public Service Obligation (PSO).

Director of Traffic and Rail Transportation at the Ministry's Directorate General of Railways, Danto Restyawan, remarked that the Airlangga Train is a form of the government's efforts, through the Transportation Ministry, in providing cheap, reliable, safe, and comfortable services to the public.

"In order to improve the PSO train service, Airlangga Train, which serves Pasar Senen to Pasar Turi, is officially run. Airlangga is here to be an alternative for travelers," Restyawan stated.
