Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Bali contingent took the top spot on the third day of judo matches at the National Sports Week (PON) XX held in Papua Province, by bagging three gold medals on Friday.



The medal tally was the highest in judo so far at the PON Papua. Judo matches have been held since October 29, 2021 at Graha Eme Neme Yayware, Timika.


The gold conquest began with Fania Farid defeating West Java's Tiara Artha Gartia in the women's single 78-kg category.

Farid failed to prevail over her opponent in the first five minutes, however, her consistent efforts bore fruit and helped her gain one point after one minute and 19 seconds during golden score (overtime).



In the second final round, it was I Gede Ganding Kalbu Soetama turn to clinch gold for Bali by trouncing his West Java opponent, Deden Setiadi, in the men's singles 100-kg category.



Soetama managed to win over Deden Setiadi with an ippon score (the highest point) with only 16 seconds left on the clock.

Bali's hat-trick came after I Dewa Ayu Mira Widari consolidated her position at the top by defeating West Papua's Zisilia Gloria Stepanie Mailoa in the women's +78-kg category.

After three gold medals, Bali collected one bronze in the men's single +100 kg category after I Gede Agastya Darma beat Eko Haryono of East Kalimantan through an ippon score with one minute and 40 seconds remaining on the clock.



With this result, Bali has managed to secure five gold medals in the judo sport branch. The previous two gold medals were won on Thursday by Ni Kadek Pandini in the women's 57-kg category and I Gusti Ayu Putu Guna Kakihara in the 70-kg category.
