Jakarta (ANTARA) - West Jakarta Police's Narcotics Investigation Unit seized a truck loaded with 279 kg of marijuana during a raid last week and arrested three people in connection with the case.

"It's true that our members thwarted drug-trafficking," West Jakarta Police chief, Senior Commissioner Ady Wibowo, said in a press statement issued here on Monday.

The marijuana was brought from Sumatra and was intended to be distributed in Java, including Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), he informed.

The seizure was made after police received a tip on the planned distribution of marijuana sent from Sumatra, he said. Acting on the tip, police launched an investigation and began looking for evidence and interviewing witnesses, he added.

The investigation led to the arrest of three people and the seizure of a truck containing marijuana packed in sacks in the Bekasi area on Wednesday (September 29, 2021), Wibowo said.

Police nabbed two people from the truck, while a third was caught receiving a package containing marijuana, he added.

"So, here we get a truck traveling from Medan to Jakarta. We have arrested three perpetrators, two were carrying (the drugs), and one received the package," head of the West Jakarta Police Narcotics Unit, Commissioner Danang Setyo Pambudi, informed.

Police are still investigating the three suspects, who have been detained at the West Jakarta Police station, he said.

The investigators are exploring the roles of the three suspects in the drug-trafficking case and the possibility of the involvement of other networks, he added.
