Jakarta (ANTARA) - Amal Clooney, an award-winning lawyer, who specializes in international law and human rights, will deliver a keynote address at this year's APEC CEO Summit.

The fully virtual CEO Summit will be hosted from Auckland, New Zealand, on November 11-12 (New Zealand Time) and will be broadcast "as live" to audiences across 21 APEC economies, according to a release issued by APEC New Zealand and received here on Friday.

At the APEC CEO Summit, Amal Clooney will discuss her work defending victims of human rights abuses around the world and share thoughts on human rights in today’s digital world.

She will also urge the Summit attendees to reflect on the humanitarian impact of business and the responsibility of business leaders to put respect for human rights at the core of their decision-making to support global issues.

Amal Clooney represents victims of human rights violations and has appeared in cases before the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, and the European Court of Human Rights.

She frequently represents victims of mass atrocities, including genocide and sexual violence, and she has successfully defended and freed political prisoners, including journalists, around the world.

Amal Clooney is a special adviser to the International Criminal Court Prosecutor, Karim Khan QC, and a member of the UK government’s team of experts on preventing sexual violence in conflict zones.

She is also appointed to the UK Attorney General’s panel of experts on public international law and has served as deputy chair of a panel of legal experts on media freedom chaired by former UK Supreme Court President Lord Neuberger.

Amal Clooney is the author of "The Right to a Fair Trial in International Law" published by Oxford University Press in 2020. She is also a visiting Professor at Columbia Law School and co-founder of the Clooney Foundation for Justice, which aims to wage justice for women, journalists, and minorities through accountability for human rights abuses around the world.

Amal Clooney joins Helen Clark, Richard Edelman, Professor Jonathan Haidt, Dr David Suzuki, Amber Mac, and Tony Fernandes as keynote speakers at the summit.

This year’s APEC CEO Summit is a virtual gathering of the world’s most powerful CEOs, business leaders, entrepreneurs, thought leaders, prime ministers, and presidents of APEC economies.

Delegates will attend the Summit online, as it is hosted using an immersive stage and digital technologies and broadcast from the Aotea Centre in central Auckland on November 11-12, 2021 (New Zealand Time).

The APEC CEO Summit 2021 will focus on five themes as follows:

First, the state of the world with and post COVID. Economic recovery, trade, and protectionism.

Second, the Digital Disruption Opportunity - digital transformation, technology and innovation – the Summit will tap into the best of current global knowledge and insights on this subject.

Third, the Primacy of Trust: how businesses can strengthen trust and be seen as a force for good in the communities in which they operate.

The APEC CEO Summit is the most influential meeting of business and government in the Asia Pacific. The forum provides opportunities for governance, chief executives, and world business leaders to engage with each other and with the leaders of APEC economies.

Each year, the CEO Summit draws the region’s business leaders, intellectuals, and media personalities for interactive discussions with APEC Leaders on key trade and economic issues facing the Asia-Pacific.
