Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and his entourage visited Papua Province on Friday following a series of working visits to the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and West Papua.

Head of the Papua Provincial Communication and Information Office Jeri Yudianto stated here on Friday that the provincial government had lauded the visit, as it entailed several agendas.

"On Friday, the vice president will attend the closing ceremony of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Harapan Village, Jayapura District," he remarked.

On the following day, Amin will greet the public through a visit to the 1 Presidential Instruction Program (Inpres) State Elementary School Vim and Indonesia Christian Church at the Kotaraja Papuan Pniel Congregation, Jayapura City.

"In addition, the vice president will chair the coordination meeting held at the Sasana Krida Hall of the governor's office attended by the governor, speaker of the Papua Provincial Legislative Assembly, speaker of the Papuan People's Assembly, head of the Papua Provincial Development Planning Board (Bapedda), several heads of cities and districts along with the heads of the regional Bapedda, traditional leaders, religious leaders, academics, and several female leaders," he noted.

Yudianto noted that the meeting will discuss efforts to expedite public welfare in the provinces of Papua and West Papua as well as accelerate efforts to reduce extreme poverty in the five priority target districts in 2021.

Furthermore, Amin will review the Mini Exhibition of Community Empowerment Products for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises at the Sasana Krida Main Hall of the governor's office.

The vice president will also hold a limited press conference and inaugurate the Community Work Training Center at the Papua Alom Campus of the Global Mission International Indonesia Foundation in Sentani Sub-district, Jayapura District.

"The visit is expected to run well and have an impact on strategic actions in improving the welfare of people in ‘Bumi Cenderawasih’ (the Land of the Bird-of-Paradise, a title for Papua)," he remarked.
