The efficiency attempts must continue with the right target.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir has asked state-owned electricity provider PT PLN (Persero) to be prepared to support an eco-friendly lifestyle that has slowly become a trend in society.

"Hence, we have to rearrange our strategy by predicting what kind of eco-lifestyle that will be implemented by the community," he remarked here on Friday.

According to him, the new lifestyle will have a huge impact not only on Indonesia but also on the global community.

Hence, collaboration is important between the government, the community, and the experts working in the renewable energy sector for building a joint roadmap.

In addition, the minister asked the state-owned corporation to immediately make the switch from fossil fuels at its power plants to renewable energy and improve the transmission system.

"The efficiency attempts must continue with the right target. Thus, I expect the growing eco-lifestyle can encourage the transformation of PLN," he added.

According to the company, electricity consumption in Indonesia reached 187.78 terawatt-hours (TWh) in the third quarter of 2021 -- an increase of 4.42 percent year on year -- as household, business, and industrial activities returned to normal following a decline in COVID-19 cases.

Thus, enterprises can focus on intensification and extensification strategies to increase electricity sales, it said.

The intensification strategy is being carried out by giving various bundling and promo offers to increase customer convenience and encourage the use of electric gadgets such as induction stoves and battery-based electric vehicles, PLN said.

Meanwhile, the extensification strategy is being implemented through a win-back program -- for instance, by encouraging companies that are still using their own generators to rely on PLN for power supply so that they can focus on their core business.

In addition, the state-owned corporation said it is conducting programs to 'electrify' agriculture and marine programs.
