To solve this problem, if the people are well-educated regarding financial literacy, especially on the problem of instant culture, then the number of illegal online loan users will decrease.
Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Edifying the people on financial literacy is deemed crucial to respond to the prevalence of illegal online loan cases, Udayana University sociologist Wahyu Budi Nugroho stated.

"To solve this problem, if the people are well-educated regarding financial literacy, especially on the problem of instant culture, then the number of illegal online loan users will decrease," Nugroho told ANTARA here on Sunday evening.

The sociologist highlighted several aspects that will also lower the number of these cases, including making the people more economically prosperous.

If various conventional and legal banking institutions make the loan terms more easier for the people, then they would prefer to choose these services, as they have a far lower risk, according to Nugroho.

"The sociologist assumes that everything that the people need will appear on its own. Conversely, everything that the people do not need will disappear on its own," Nugroho explained.

In addition, these illegal online loan cases are not about age or social status but rather about the issue of instant culture in our modern era, he pointed out.

Modern life has offered various efficient goods that led to the emergence of the instant culture despite the fact that anything instant often carries several risks, Nugroho remarked.

"Before taking out an online loan, it is important to check first whether their services are legal. Moreover, lenders should understand and abide by OJK's (The Financial Services Authority's) regulation," he noted.

"Hence, both parties understand their respective rights and obligations," he stated.

Earlier, House of Representatives (DPR RI) speaker Puan Maharani had voiced support for the National Police's stringent action against illegal online loan practices, while stressing that such practices are detrimental to the community.
