Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Finance Ministry is committed to increasing financial literacy of young people, including their understanding of the state budget.

"In the era of information and technology, literacy is not limited to reading and writing skills but it is the main foundation for the progress of individuals and society," Finance Ministry's Secretary General of the Directorate of Financing and Risk Management (DJPPR) Ubaidi Socheh Hamidi remarked here on Thursday

He made the remarks at a public event titled "Learning Culture For Better Future: Financial Active, Smart, and Wise" in Jakarta.

Hamidi said his side holds several programs, such as public talks and literacy festivals, for teaching volunteer communities and financial literacy communities.

Through the event, his side is keen to integrate state budget lessons into games.

Hamidi said, the financial literacy improvement program for the community also aims to achieve the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045 through a better and more equitable level of welfare.

Hence, he affirmed that his side, as a working unit of the Finance Ministry in charge of managing state budget financing and financial risks, is committed to pushing up public literacy, including for various mentoring communities.

"We hope that after this activity, fellow literacy mentors and activists can disseminate the information and knowledge gained," he stated.

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) reported that Indonesia's financial literacy index had reached 49.68 percent in 2022, an increase from 21.84 percent in 2013, 29.70 percent in 2016, and 38.03 percent in 2019.

The event presented several speakers: Albertus Kurniadi Hendarto, head of the Risk Mitigation Sub-Directorate of the DJPPR; Aghnina Wahdini, a traditional gaming enthusiast; and Pritta Tyas, a clinical and family psychologist.

Hundreds of participants, mostly youngsters, attended the event.
