Jakarta (ANTARA) - The comprehensive rational methodology should be applied for relocation of the nation's capital to East Kalimantan, the National Research and Innovation Agency's (BRIN's) Political Research Center's researcher, Syafuan Rozi, opined during a webinar here, Thursday.

"This method mandates that a policy should be based on research. Without it, it would become an incremental policy," he noted.

According to Rozi, an incremental policy only involves a certain party by reducing the risk as much as possible to the general public.

"Policy that does not involve many people will proceed well during the formulation stage, but there will be many problems when it comes to its implementation," he expounded.

Relocation of the nation's capital city also requires a technocracy process, he pointed out.

In addition, relocation should be supported by the local citizens, so that it would be beneficial, he remarked.

"Local residents and newcomers, such as transmigrants, should be considered. Do not displace them," Rozi stressed.

The first step that should be taken is to map out the people, who were supportive, neutral, and against the relocation of the nation's capital city, he highlighted.

"We should also list their support and complaints, so that it would be comprehensive and rational. Local residents should be assured that presence of the capital city would not mean eviction," he expounded.

During the webinar, University of Indonesia's (UI's) lecturer, Andrinof Chaniago, deemed that the idea to relocate the capital city to East Kalimantan could create an opportunity to build a society with strong national identity.

This is because the new capital will be built in a somewhat empty land under a province, with a relatively balanced ethnicity, he explained.

Moreover, relocation of the capital city could also become the foundation to strengthen the nation to prevent the erosion of nationalism, he affirmed.

"One of the rational logical reasons for Kalimantan being chosen is to realize justice and erase development discrimination between regions as a foundation to prevent the erosion of nationalism," he elaborated.
