Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-Owned Minister Erick Thohir affirmed that the soon-to-be-held Group of Twenty (G20) Summit in Bali would unveil an opportunity to demonstrate Indonesia's economic growth to the world.

"If the G20 Summit will be held in Bali, then this would offer us a great opportunity to show our nation's economic growth," Minister Thohir said as quoted from his official Instagram account @erickthohir on Tuesday.

The minister later explained that Indonesia was elected to become the host and will assume the presidency of the international forum of the 20 leading countries of the world economy in 2022.

"This is our first time hosting the G20 Summit," Thohir added.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto remarked that several state leaders had expressed their support for Indonesia to hold the G20 presidency from December 1, 2021, to November 30, 2022.

At a meeting with Australian Prime Minister (PM), Scott Morrison, Hartarto spoke of Indonesia and Australia having agreed to raise a discussion on the digital economy at the G20 forum during the Indonesian presidency later.

The discussion aims to regulate policies in the digital sector to be aligned with the conventional sector, especially in terms of digital platforms.

Minister Hartarto said the support also came from French President, Emmanuel Macron, during a bilateral meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Splendide Royal Hotel, Rome, Italy.

Along with President Macron, President Jokowi discussed the plan to form a comprehensive economic partnership agreement between Indonesia and the European Union (IEU-CEPA).

President Jokowi pushed for accelerating the formation of the IEU-CEPA that is expected to boost the Indonesian economy. The acceleration is also expected to drive Indonesia's exports to Europe and vice versa.

Likewise, during a bilateral meeting with Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President Jokowi also discussed the acceleration of the plan to form a comprehensive economic partnership agreement between Indonesia and Turkey or IT-CEPA.

The acceleration is expected to restore the large market for Indonesian crude palm oil (CPO) in Turkey, which had declined earlier.
