Jakarta is now at PPKM Level 1, so health protocols should continue at Level 1.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The lowering of the public activity restrictions (PPKM) level in Jakarta and the improving coronavirus situation must be followed with the strict observance of health protocols, the House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker said here on Tuesday.

"We are pretty happy that the capital city is at its lowest PPKM level. Jakarta is now at PPKM Level 1, so the health protocols should continue at Level 1," Puan Maharani added.

The health protocols should be maintained because Jakarta earlier was one of the regions that contributed the most COVID-19 positive cases, she explained.

"We cannot let our guard down despite the fact that COVID-19 cases in Jakarta are decreasing," she said.

"The regional government should expedite vaccinations for Jakarta residents who have not been vaccinated to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases," she affirmed.

She called for people's participation to keep Jakarta safe from COVID-19, saying awareness on part of Jakarta residents has been one of the factors for the successful pandemic handling.

Despite the fact that a number of malls, eating places, and other sectors can now operate fully, the people should remain cautious of COVID-19 spread, she expounded.

The Speaker also deemed that the lowering of PPKM status in Jakarta will also affect the increasing relaxation in offices, especially in the non-essential sector, which is expected to boost the regional economy.

"Jakarta, as the center of the nation's economy, plays a huge role in National Economic Recovery (PEN). Relaxations in various sectors in Jakarta will affect our economic growth, thus bolstering the people's prosperity," she elaborated.

Maharani said she believes that the PPKM level reduction in Jakarta will increasingly normalize the education sector, so the regional government has to accelerate the vaccination of children.

This step is necessary so that the number of Indonesian children participating in face-to-face learning can increase, she added.

This would also fix the quality of education since remote learning during the pandemic has affected their psychology and cognitive learning, she added.

"I invite all parties to be wary of increasing COVID-19 cases at the end of the year. Everyone is requested to reduce unnecessary outdoor activities," she stressed.
