As cited from a press release here on Thursday, the selected films were curated by Nia Dinata (director), Asmara Abigail (actor), and Amir Siregar (movie critic), who represented their respective areas of expertise.
The selected films came from three specific periods in Jakarta: 1950-1969, 1970-1989, and 1990-2010. The chosen movies are "Asmara Dara" (1958) by Usmar Ismail, "Cintaku di Rumah Susun" (1987) by Nya' Abbas Akup, "Opera Jakarta" (1985) by Sjumandjaja, and "Love" (2008) by Kabir Bhatia.
The films were selected based on the assessment of Jakarta's portrayal in cinemas, its aesthetic approach, and socio-political conditions at that time, and its impact on film comparison in Indonesia.
The Road To Jakarta Film Week will continue with the main festival on November 18-21, 2021.
The programs to be held include long and short film screenings from various countries.
