Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Yogyakarta COVID-19 Handling Task Force has increased its vigilance amid an increase in active coronavirus cases in early November.

Though the graph has remained under control, the task force said it does not want to risk virus transmission.

"In early November, there was indeed a slight increase compared to September and October, where the graphs tended to fall," daily chairman of the Yogyakarta COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Heroe Poerwadi, said on Friday.

The daily cases in early November have touched more than five, with fewer patients recovering or completing self-isolation, he informed.

In September and October, the number of new cases was less than the number of patients recovering or finishing self-isolation, leading to a fall in the graph of active cases, he said.

“At the end of October, the number of new cases was below five cases per day. However, in early November, it increased to more than five,” Poerwadi informed.

The rise in active cases in Yogyakarta can also be seen from the number of patients undergoing treatment, both in hospitals, shelters, and those conducting self-isolation in the last five days increasing from 43 patients to 55 patients.

An epidemiological study in early November showed that there is one sub-district that has been upgraded to the orange zone, Poerwadi said.

"Previously, there were no sub-district included in the orange zone," he informed.

The number of sub-districts in the green zone has increased from 14 to 22, and 22 other urban villages are in the yellow zone, he added.

The positive confirmed cases in Yogyakarta have mostly resulted from close contact with COVID-19 patients, with many patients not knowing the origin of the infection, he said.

"Praise God, until now there has been no finding in new clusters. Hopefully, there were no clusters after all," he remarked.

Therefore, Poerwadi said he hopes that people will continue to implement the health protocols and stay at home as much as possible.

"We are trying our best to suppress the transmission of the case, especially in the last few weeks when tourism in Yogyakarta is very crowded," he added.
