Jakarta (ANTARA) - There has been an upward trend in COVID-19 cases, particularly in 43 districts and cities in Java-Bali, including Jakarta, in the last seven days, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has said.

In a press conference observed from here on Monday, he said that his ministry will conduct intervention identification in the 43 districts and cities, which comprise 33.6 percent of Java-Bali, to stem the increase in infections.

However, the continuation of PPKM and the government's weekly evaluation has resulted in better control and improvement in the COVID-19 situation, Pandjaitan, who is also the public activity restriction (PPKM) coordinator for Java-Bali, said.

This can be observed from the COVID-19 transmission, which remains low, he added.

He drew attention to the number of confirmed cases in Java-Bali, which have dropped 99 percent compared to the peak recorded on July 15 this year.

In addition, Indonesia and Java-Bali's reproduction number (Rt) is still below one, indicating that the COVID-19 pandemic is under control, the minister said.

"The Rt in Java remains at 0.93, while in Bali it is at 0.97. We can see that Bali is also improving," Pandjaitan affirmed.

Moreover, he informed, during a limited meeting on Monday noon, the President called upon all parties to remain cautious and learn from European countries.

A number of countries in Europe have experienced a large spike in daily cases because of people's neglect in implementing the health protocols, Pandjaitan said.

However, based on epidemiological reports, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 has decreased drastically, he noted.

As a matter of fact, the current number of funerals is equal to the rate before the pandemic happened, he said.

He then again underscored the importance of maintaining a high level of cautiousness and observing the health protocols.
