Every individual has values or ideas which can help an organization to improve.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's demographic bonus potential in 2030–2040 must be optimized by institutional and company leaders by developing empowering organizational culture and values for their human resources (HR) to encourage leadership succession, an expert has said.
"Indonesia, with its increasing young population and female population, is full of potential human resources that can be improved," Dave Ulrich, a professor from the University of Michigan, United States, remarked.
He was one of the speakers at the 3rd Indonesia Human Capital Summit (IHCS), which was monitored by Antara from here on Tuesday.
The National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) has predicted that Indonesia will achieve a demographic bonus in 2030–2040, with 64 percent of its population of 297 million reaching the productive age.
According to Ulrich, to optimize the demographic bonus, leaders must be able to empower their human resources, instead of forcing their power on institutions or companies.
"Effective leadership is needed in the current situation filled with uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic," the expert on HR management emphasized.

Hence, Indonesia, which has people from diverse cultural backgrounds, requires leadership based on the concepts of diversity, equality, and inclusivity, Ulrich said.
Speaking on diversity, the professor said that the board of an organization must have representatives from various groups with different backgrounds.
“Every individual has values or ideas which can help an organization to improve. Hence, it is necessary to have representatives from young people, women, minorities, and other groups on the organization's executive board,” he explained.
Leaders must provide equal opportunities to allow workers to keep learning and developing by giving them challenges according to their tasks, Ulrich said.
Equality can foster inclusiveness and a sense of belonging to the organization, thus encouraging workers to carry out their duties well, he added.
The 3rd IHCS is a biennial conference organized by the Indonesian Human Capital Forum (FHCI) and is themed ‘Developing Indonesian Future Leaders: Rethink, Reinvest, Reinvent -- Reshaping the Future of Human Capital Management’.
Meanwhile, FHCI is a center of excellence for HR management driven by State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) to build synergy in developing better Indonesian human resources.
