Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government supports the central government's plan to increase community mobility restrictions (PPKM) to level 3 during the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays.

"We are supporting the central government's regulations by implementing PPKM level 3 during the holidays despite having entered level 1 of PPKM, " Jakarta deputy governor Ahmad Riza Patria stated on Friday.

Patria later explained that the PPKM Level 1 was declared in Jakarta in line with the declining COVID-19 case count. However, the easing of activities at public spaces during the long holidays can potentially increase transmission of the coronavirus.

Hence, the deputy governor agreed that PPKM in Jakarta will be tightened again during the year-end holidays to reduce the transmission of cases.

The Jakarta government will also adjust activities at tourist attractions in accordance with the PPKM Level 3 regulation.

"Regulations at tourist attractions and public places will be adjusted during the level 3 of PPKM," Patria remarked.

Earlier, the Indonesian government had planned to implement the Level 3 PPKM policy in Indonesia during the 2021 Christmas and New Year 2022 holidays to prevent an increase in COVID-19 cases.

"During the year-end holidays, all regions in Indonesia will apply the PPKM Level 3 regulations," Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy stated on November 17.

This decision was taken at the online Ministerial Coordination Meeting in Anticipating a Potential Increase in COVID-19 Cases during the Christmas and New Year Holidays.

Effendy noted that the policy was implemented to tighten public mobility and to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases. Later, all regions in Indonesia at level 1 and 2 PPKM should implement the PPKM level 3 during the year-end holidays.

This policy is valid from December 24, 2021, to January 2, 2021, for all regions in Indonesia.
