Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) is coordinating with the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry to promptly take action to expedite handling and recovery from the disaster caused by Mount Semeru's eruption.

In a written statement here on Monday, BNPB's Head Suharyanto spoke of having ordered the military, police, and other institutions to ensure no residents were present within the vicinity of Mount Semeru, Lumajang District, East Java Province.

This is part of the precautionary measures against the hot clouds that could likely emerge from Mount Semeru from time to time.

"Do not allow any residents within the area. It is still dangerous," he affirmed.

Suharyanto surveyed the locations affected by Mount Semeru's hot clouds at Gladak Perak Bridge, Lumajang, East Java.

He rode a type of dirt bike to the location since it was unreachable using a four wheeler.

En route to the location, the BNPB head witnessed several vegetation that had been destroyed, such as falling trees, as well as volcanic material build-up of 30 centimeter thickness on the road.

Several buildings along the road located in Curah Kobokan were also damaged by the hot clouds.

At the end of road, Suharyanto, accompanied by BNPB's Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Deputy Jarwansyah and the local military personnel, stopped and observed the Gladak Perak Bridge that was broken and disconnected.

"Some shelters, such as Curah Kobokan and Sumberwuluh, are prone to another eruption," Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy noted in a press release here on Monday.
