Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Bali Provincial Health Office has asked the city and district governments to map older adults who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 up to the village level.

"COVID-19 vaccinations for older adults have not been completed yet, even though it (the coverage) is above 60 percent now," head of the Bali Provincial Health Office, Dr. Ketut Suarjaya, said here on Monday.

Hopefully, COVID-19 vaccinations among older adults would reach at least 80 percent since they have been categorized as a vulnerable group, he added.

"There are still those who are not vaccinated yet in villages, especially in Gianyar, Bangli, and Buleleng districts," Suarjaya noted.

For this reason, the Bali Provincial Health Office has asked health offices in districts to map all unvaccinated older adults in villages.

According to Suarjaya, a sweep must be carried out to ensure that all older adults get the COVID-19 jab.

To achieve community immunity, he said, the COVID-19 vaccination program in Bali province is targeting to immunize 3,405,130 residents.

As of Sunday (December 5, 2021), as many as 3,453,753 or 101.43 percent of the target recipients have received the first shot, while 3,049,132 or 89.55 percent have been fully immunized against COVID-19.

Suarjaya also reminded the public to keep complying with the health protocols to protect themselves from the virus, especially considering the emergence of the new Omicron variant in several countries.

In a bid to boost immunity against COVID-19, the Indonesian government had launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021.

According to data provided by the Health Ministry, as of December 6, 2021, nearly 142,773,966 citizens have received their first COVID-19 shot, while 99,280,976 have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
