Jakarta (ANTARA) - Corruption is akin to rust that damages iron, thereby hindering development of the nation, according to Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.

Amin delivered the statement during the 2021 World Anti-Corruption Day at the Corruption Eradication Commission Building in Jakarta on Thursday.

“The momentum for commemorating Anti-Corruption Day is in line with the government’s commitment to continue to make efforts to prevent and combat corruption. Corruption is akin to rust that eats away at the iron pillars of development,” he elaborated.

Corruption is also a threat to humanity and the people's rights, as it destroys the foundations of people's lives and the state.

"Corruption is a threat to humanity, public rights, and sustainability of the nation and state, because it destroys the pillars of life," the vice president affirmed.

Amin also called corruption a crime against human rights and justice apart from being a violation of law and ethics.
