W Lombok, NTB (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini visited flood victims and disbursed aid in the sub-districts of Batulayar and Gunungsari, West Lombok District, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, on Friday.

"In handling the impact of the disaster, the Social Affairs Ministry has deployed personnel of the emergency response unit (Tagana) to assist in the evacuation process, assess the victims, and distribute logistics aid," she stated.

Rismaharini also observed the public kitchen managed by the personnel in the yard of Gunungsari Sub-district's community health center that had cooked 13,847 packages of ready-to-eat food on December 6-9, 2021.

Eight evacuation sites were set up.

In addition, the ministry provided psychosocial support services (LDP) to reduce the psychological burden and post-disaster trauma of the victims, especially the ones from vulnerable groups.

Earlier, emergency response logistics had also been disbursed from the Lombok City’s assistance buffer stocks, comprising 650 packages of basic necessities, 50 sets of food ware, 50 sets of family kits, 50 sets of kids ware, 50 sets of kitchen utensils, 40 rolled-tents, 30 mattresses, and five units of velbed.

Meanwhile, the additional assistance provided directly by the minister included 500 sheets of sarong, which is a large cloth often wrapped around the waist; 200 pieces of children toys; 300 packages of snacks; 420 packs of biscuits; 200 packs of children's diapers, and medicines.

"The total value of logistics assistance reached Rp287.72 million," she noted.

Furthermore, she handed compensation to the heirs of the five died victims. Each heir received Rp15 million.

Moreover, compensation worth Rp5 million per person was given to severely injured victims, thereby bringing the total compensation disbursed by the ministry to reach Rp80 million.

The flooding in West Lombok District was caused by heavy rains that lashed on December 5, 2021, since 2 a.m. Central Indonesia Standard Time.

The disaster claimed five lives, damaged hundreds of houses, and affected more than 20 thousand people in the sub-districts of Gunungsari, Lingsar, Sekotong, and Batulayar in West Lombok District.
