We are grateful that the earthquake did not have a severe impact on the electricity infrastructure. In addition, our field personnel are safe
Kupang (ANTARA) - State-owned PT PLN (Persero) has reported that power supply from 194 electricity substations on Adonara Island, East Flores district, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), which were damaged in the Flores Sea earthquake, has been restored.

"There was a blackout on Adonara Island due to the earthquake. However, at 4 p.m. Central Indonesia Standard Time (WITA), all substations had been normalized," executive vice president of corporate communications and social and environmental responsibility at the company, Agung Murdifi, said in a statement received here on Tuesday.

Electricity supply to Adonara Island was interrupted due to medium voltage cables brushing against each other when the 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck at 10.20 a.m. Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) on Tuesday, he informed.

The corporate’s field team immediately set to work to recover electricity for 38,085 customers in the area, he added.

Furthermore, the electricity network from Flores Island to Alor Island, which was affected by the disaster, has been secured and there have been no more power outages, Murdifi said.

Currently, the electricity supply to Flores Island has been restored safely, he disclosed. The island gets its electricity from the Rangko Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG), Maumere PLTMG, Ulumbu Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP), and Wewaria Solar Power Plant (PLTS), as well as other generators and transmission lines, he added.

However, PLN’s executive vice president said that the Ropa Coal-fired Power Plant (PLTU) has not been operated since it is located in the coastal area.

"We are grateful that the earthquake did not have a severe impact on the electricity infrastructure. In addition, our field personnel are safe,” he remarked.

Although the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) revoked the tsunami early warning at 1.24 p.m. local time, PLN is still on standby to maintain electricity supply for the community, he added.

He then asked the public to report electrical disturbances through the PLN Mobile application or reach the company’s contact center at 123.
