Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Yogyakarta National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has readied search and rescue (SAR) teams to be on standby during the 2021 Christmas and New Year 2022 holidays.

The agency is willing to provide security and comfort to travelers in the city, especially at tourists destinations.

"The SAR teams, with 83 personnel, will be on standby for Christmas and New Year for 19 days from December 17, 2021, to January 4, 2022 ," Head of the Yogyakarta Basarnas Office L. Wahyu Efendi stated on Friday.

Efendi later noted that the SAR stand-by team will support the transportation regulation in the long holidays during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Efendi said the agency will continue to focus on handling incidents in accordance with their main tasks and functions.

However, he reminded officers to not become careless with regard to other accidents and disasters that could likely occur and necessitate attention.

"Several aspects must be taken into account by the SAR stand-by officers, such as maintaining a polite approach while coordinating with related agencies and conducting rescue missions on the field," Efendi added.

SAR standby personnel will be divided into four teams. The first team will conduct car patrols around the Central Java - Yogyakarta border and to Adisutjipto Airport as well as patrols to the slopes of Mount Merapi.
