It proves Dorna Sports' confidence in the readiness of the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit in holding world-class motorcycle racing events.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) continues to improve race-supporting facilities and infrastructure at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit to meet the homologation requirements for the 2022 MotoGP.
The association noted in a statement on Friday that it had also continued to coordinate intensively with related stakeholders, such as the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI), Dorna Sports, and the International Motorcycle Racing Federation (FIM).
Vice CEO of MGPA Cahyadi Wanda remains optimistic that all requirements would be met, and the circuit would pass the homologation test process before the race takes place.
"The drivers and crew of the 2021 World Superbike (WSBK) racing teams had lauded us for the quality of the track. However, we still have to improve several aspects," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Director of Operations and Business Innovation of Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) Arie Prasetyo welcomed the Dorna Sports’ plan to hold the 2022 MotoGP on March 18-22, and 2022 WSBK on November 11-13, at the Mandalika Circuit.
"It proves Dorna Sports' confidence regarding readiness of the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit in holding world-class motorcycle racing events,” he stated.
Prasetyo noted that currently, the corporation was enhancing the quality of supporting facilities and infrastructure of the circuit to improve amenities for the racing team and spectators.
Currently, the ITDC is preparing to improve access for visitor’s vehicles, facilities for pedestrians, and drainage channels around the circuit.
It will additionally arrange the circuit's landscape to become better, complete the non-modular section of the pit building's construction, and build 11 additional grand stands.
The attempt is a precautionary measure against the huge number of MotoGP spectators expected to surpass the figure of WSBK. The work is targeted to be completed in early March of 2022.
"In addition, we are committed to improving the quality of organizing events at the circuit, so next year’s events will be better and meet the expectations of all motorcycle racing enthusiasts," the director stated.
“Please give us your support, so the preparations for implementing the 2022 MotoGP can run smoothly. Thus, we can watch the MotoGP race again in our country after waiting for 24 years. We also believe that the event can revive the tourism industry and have a large multiplier effect for the Indonesian economy," he added.
