The national police strives to provide protection, public security and order, and law enforcement for residents
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police is committed to constantly improving its performance in terms of security and law enforcement duties following an increase in public satisfaction with the agency.

A recent survey on the national police's performance conducted by research agency Populi Center revealed that public satisfaction with the police forces reached 75 percent.

"The national police strives to provide protection, public security and order, and law enforcement for residents," the national police's Public Relations Division head Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo told ANTARA here on Tuesday.

Prasetyo expressed gratitude to the residents who, based on the Populi Center survey, held the police forces in high esteem, and reiterated their commitment to continued improvement to meet the high level of public expectations and respond to public concerns aired to the police.

"We express our gratitude and appreciation from the general public. The police forces will continue to serve the public with utmost quality, and we will welcome all forms of criticism and suggestions to improve the functioning of the national police," Prasetyo remarked.

Under the leadership of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the national police braved the storm of public criticism following unsatisfactory performance and unpleasant police behaviour in dealing with people, who often expressed their criticism with hashtagged posts on social media, he noted.

During a police force evaluation and analysis coordination meeting held in Yogyakarta on Friday (Dec 17), Prabowo instructed his subordinates to evaluate their performance and police management.

The general also issued an internal telegram on September 2021 that instructs police officers to prioritise humane methods and lower the likelihood of confrontation during demonstrations and public protest events.

Prabowo also warned that regional police leaders will attract punishment if their subordinates failed to follow discipline and the code of conduct, as he asserted the belief that "any problem will start from its head".
