We have tracked her (Veronica Koman) location
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police will contact Interpol to issue a red notice to a human rights lawyer-cum-West Papua advocate Veronica Koman who was named as a suspect for hate speech and fake news.

The East Java Police had contacted the National Police's international division for the issuance of a red corner notice issuance by Interpol, the Indonesian National Police spokesman, Police Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo stated here, Monday. As a member country of Interpol, the Indonesian National Police may ask for a red corner notice of a certain fugitive to the international body. When a red notice is issued, law enforcement worldwide would locate and temporarily arrest the fugitive before he or she is extradited to his/home country.

"We have tracked her (Veronica Koman) location," he added while ensuring that the suspect would be questioned by the police and face trial for her alleged crimes.

East Java Police named the human rights lawyer as a suspect in a riot at the dormitory of a Papua student in Surabaya on August 17. The police claimed Koman posted several tweets that allegedly contained fake news and hate speech on social media portal Twitter.

After Koman was named as a suspect, Indonesia's National Commission of Human Rights and several human rights group such as Amnesty International had slammed the police's move. For the human rights advocate body, Koman's tweets did not contain either fake news or a hate speech but only had the more necessary information from a different point of view.
