Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast moderate to heavy rains in parts of the capital and the eastern sea ahead of the 2021 Christmas celebrations.

Quoted from www.bmkg.go.id, moderate to heavy rains accompanied by lightning to likely occur in the areas of West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Southeast Sulawesi and Maluku may be influenced by suspected tropical cyclone seeds in the East Sea region.

The areas of East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi are likely to experience strong winds.

The BMKG has detected a suspected tropical cyclone seedling area in the East Sea region that has the likelihood of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24-72 hours.

The suspected area tends to move away from the Indonesian territory to the south, southwest, to the Australian waters. However, the public needs to be aware of the likelihood of moderate to heavy rains accompanied by lightning, strong winds, and high waves during the development of a tropical cyclone.

The BMKG also monitors that 98W cyclone seeds are still growing in the North Pacific Ocean region of Papua. These cyclone seeds can have an indirect impact on the weather in Indonesia, such as waves with a height of 1.5-2.5 meters in the waters of North Sulawesi, Maluku waters, Halmahera waters, and West Papua waters.

In addition, waves of height of 2.5 to 4 meters can also likely occur in the northern Pacific Ocean region of Jayapura.
