Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The government of Tangerang district, Banten province, has announced that it will conduct random testing to detect COVID-19 transmission among residents and tourists during the year-end holiday.

The district government has prepared 1,100 rapid antigen test kits for the random testing initiative, spokesperson for the COVID-19 Handling Task Force of Tangerang district, Hendra Tarmizi, informed here on Tuesday.

"Out of the 44 monitoring posts readied, we will provide rapid antigen test service in 11 posts, where each post will provide 100 antigen test kits," he said.

The district government still has around 80 thousand additional antigen test kits if the posts require more kits, he added.

According to Tarmizi, random testing has been carried out on 400 residents so far, and they have all tested negative for COVID-19.

He also said that the district government, with the support of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri), is ready to ensure security and carry out supervision to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 during the holiday period.

The district government is also cooperating with TNI and Polri to provide COVID-19 vaccination services to residents, he added.

"The TNI and Polri have also prepared vaccinators and vaccine booths at the monitoring posts," the spokesperson said.

The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Indonesia in March 2020. According to data provided by the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of December 28, 2021, at least 4,262,157 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country, while 4,113,472 people have recovered, and 144,071 people have succumbed to the deadly virus.

The Indonesian government launched a nationwide vaccination program on January 13, 2021, as part of efforts to boost immunity against COVID-19.
