According to the office data, 186,249 children in total are targeted to receive COVID-19 vaccines in Tangerang City.
"The ministry has decided to start vaccinating children aged 6-11 years. Everything has been confirmed in terms of safety and the benefits of protection that will be obtained. Hence, do not hesitate to get your sons and daughters vaccinated immediately," Tangerang City Health Office Head Dini Anggraeni stated here, Tuesday.
Anggraeni explained that vaccination is conducted to boost the children’s immunity against the threat of COVID-19 transmission and prevent them from experiencing severe symptoms if they contract the virus.
“Vaccinations will surely support the implementation of face-to-face learning and minimize (virus) transmission in schools or educational units," she remarked.
Anggraeni noted that COVID-19 vaccines of the Sinovac brand were administered to children.
"The vaccines are administered according to the established standard. The dose and vaccination interval (between doses) are the same, which is 28 days, akin to that for adult vaccinations," she noted.
The Health Office head stated that vaccinations for children aged 6-11 years can commence in Tangerang City, as it has surpassed the 70-percent coverage for first dose vaccinations and among older adults, over 60 percent of the target recipients had been administered vaccination in accordance with the central government's instructions.
"Since the vaccination coverage for first dose in Tangerang City has reached 90 percent, and vaccinations for older adults have surpassed 60 percent (coverage), we can commence vaccinations for children in Tangerang City," she affirmed.
